A Political Update with Real Estate Roundtable

An AFIRE Virtual Event (Members Only)
June 25, 2020, 10:30-11:30 ET

Election years always introduce new unknowns into real estate investing equation. With COVID-19 still spreading, economic and civil unrest in the US and abroad, business reopening challenges, heightened trade tensions, and often contradictory forecasts about future political outcomes, understanding the political dynamics of the weeks and months ahead will be essential for building long-term strategy.

What are the emerging approaches to real estate contracts, rent and mortgage “holidays,” and proposed federal and state policy changes after COVID-19? How will these changes impact valuation, risk profiles, and portfolio performance?

And as tensions between the US and China grow, what’s the outlook for the trade relationship between the two nations? What could changes in the US supply chain mean for US industrial, logistics, infrastructure, and other sectors?

In this special AFIRE Town Hall, Jeff DeBoer and Ryan McCormick of the Real Estate Roundtable provide detailed and timely insights into the current political outlook for investors in the US real estate market.

Panelists:

  • Gunnar Branson, CEO, AFIRE (Moderator)
  • Jeff DeBoer, President and CEO, The Real Estate Roundtable

    • Jeff DeBoer has been at the forefront of national policy affecting the real estate industry for the past 35 years. He is the founding President and CEO of The Real Estate Roundtable, which represents the leadership of the nation’s top 150 privately owned and publicly-held real estate ownership, development, lending and management firms, as well as the elected leaders of the 17 major national real estate industry trade associations.

DeBoer chairs the National Real Estate Organization and also serves as Chairman of the Real Estate Industry Information Sharing and Analysis Center (RE-ISAC), an organization dedicated to enhancing communication between the industry and federal policymakers on terrorism threats, building security, and major incident reporting.  He is a founding member of the steering committee of the Coalition to Insure Against Terrorism (CIAT) and he co-chaired the Advisory Board of the RAND Corporation’s Center for Terrorism Risk Management Policy.
  • Ryan McCormick, Senior Vice President & Counsel, The Real Estate Roundtable

    • Ryan McCormick is Senior Vice President and Counsel at The Real Estate Roundtable, where he oversees tax policy activities.

Leading up to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, McCormick coordinated industry-wide advocacy efforts in Washington focused on tax reform legislation. He manages the Real Estate Research Consortium, which commissions outside studies on critical real estate tax policy issues. McCormick joined the Roundtable in 2013 after serving nearly 11 years in the US Senate as a tax and economic policy advisor for Senators Daniel Patrick Moynihan, John Kerry, Joseph Lieberman, Bob Graham, and Bill Nelson. He also served as Staff Director of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth. Previously, Ryan practiced tax law at Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC, the oldest tax law firm in the country.

We recommend you join via a Google Chrome Browser or download the BlueJeans event app.

Other special virtual events, outside the weekly scheduled, focus on specialized and timely topics, as well as supporting ongoing education and research.
